- Culinary Services Manager and Administration Assistant-Backyard Farm and Artisan Culinary Concepts
The Backyard Farm Team is looking for a dedicated and detail oriented candidate to fulfill the position of Culinary Services Manager and Administration Assistant starting in the 2018 season. As we have steadily increased in business volume, this is a full time, year round* position for the right candidate. We are looking for a dynamic individual who possesses great communication skills, as well as hospitality industry experience, as well as a true passion for food and wine in our region. This progressive position is available long term with lots of potential for growth, and learning in the culinary and wine tourism industry. Backyard Farm is now heading into its 5th season, with a wealth of future “development” possibilities in the foreseeable future both on-site, and for our offsite catering and private chef services.
Interested applicants must possess a valid drivers license, and transportation, due to the diversity of our offered services. In addition, “Serving It Right” certification is mandatory, and “FoodSafe” level 1 is an asset. Experience with Microsoft Office, as well as working with Mac is an asset, but we are happy to “train to suit” in our systems. A genuine interest in food and wine culture is a must, formal education is not necessary, although increased wine knowledge is a benefit of working within our exclusive team. We are also interested in increasing our Social Media, Marketing and Public Relations presence, preference will be given to those who may have experience and interest in these platforms.
The chosen applicant will work very closely with Chef Chris Van Hooydonk regarding any potential events and bookings, as well as attend event co-ordinating meetings directly with clients. The culinary service manager responsibilities will also include:
- Bi-Weekly Payroll Calculations and Source Deductions, as well as Gratuity Calculations
- Service Staff Scheduling, both on-site and for offsite events and catering
- Email corroboration with all potential and confirmed bookings, sending pricing guidelines, deposit information and updating the calendar.
- General Office Administration and Organization, answering emails, phone calls
- Social Media Management
- Possibility of Event Co-Ordinating for the right person.
- Assisting Chef in organizing schedules and business appointments when necessary
I believe it is to the benefit of our clients that this important role in our business should be the first, and last contact during the booking process. In order to facilitate full time hours, this position will include being the “Lead Server” for the majority of our events.
This position is available April, 2018. Wage compensation is based upon experience, and negotiable.

- Organic Fruit and Vegetable planting, thinning, picking and processing
- General Farm Labour where needed.

Casual Service Labour
We are looking to fill up our roster with those interested in some casual, “on-call” service shifts. Interested candidates must possess “Serving It Right” Certification, and a genuine interest in taking care of our clients, both on site at Backyard Farm Chef’s Table, and off site for local winery events, and private chef services. Professionalism is a priority, and we are happy to train for elevated service if needed. We have been so fortunate to have a large percentage of return guests, and it is not an exaggeration to say that 100% of our guests have been 100% happy thus far! Responsibilities include wine and food service, glass polishing, clearing and table maintenance. You will not be responsible for “billing”, or menu/food knowledge-we have a pre service briefing to go over menu details and inspire confidence, and to discuss any dietary needs or adjustments needed. We are very flexible with scheduling, although many event staffing needs will be during evenings and weekends. Compensation includes a higher than industry average hourly wage, and includes a share of the gratuities.
Interested applicants please forward resumes and inquiries to: firstname.lastname@example.org
